Saint Luke’s Hospital and Saint Luke’s South Hospital Rank on U.S. News & World Report List of Best Hospitals
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) July 15, 2014 -- Saint Luke’s Hospital and Saint Luke’s South Hospital have been recognized on U.S. News & World Report’s 2014-15 Best Hospitals rankings, released today. The rankings, now in their 25th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City ranks No. 2 in Missouri, No. 2 in the Kansas City metro area, and is recognized among the Best Hospitals in northwestern Missouri.
Three specialty programs of Saint Luke’s Hospital are nationally ranked in the top 50. Just 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 hospitals that were analyzed for Best Hospitals 2014-15 earned national ranking in even one specialty.
Saint Luke’s nationally ranked programs are:
• Cardiology & Heart Surgery (No. 47)
• Gynecology (No. 39)
• Urology (No. 48)
The hospital also ranks as high-performing in eight specialty areas:
• Cancer
• Ear, Nose & Throat
• Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
• Geriatrics
• Nephrology
• Neurology & Neurosurgery
• Orthopedics
• Pulmonology
Saint Luke’s South Hospital in Overland Park, Kan., is ranked No. 3 in Kansas, No. 4 in the Kansas City metro area, and is recognized among the Best Hospitals in northeastern Kansas. Saint Luke’s South Hospital also ranks as high-performing in Orthopedics.
“It is a tremendous honor to again be recognized by U.S. News & World Report as providing some of the best care in the nation. It speaks to the talent and commitment of our Saint Luke’s physicians and nurses who bring the highest level of quality care to their patients each and every day,” said Melinda L. Estes, M.D., president and CEO of Saint Luke’s Health System. “It is also very gratifying to see Saint Luke’s Hospital receive national recognition and ranking for three of our specialty programs which reflects our commitment to provide patients with the best care on a local, regional, and national level.”
For 2014-15, U.S. News evaluated hospitals in 16 adult specialties and ranked the nation’s top 50 hospitals in most of the specialties. In addition, U.S. News recognizes other high-performing hospitals that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers.
U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of age or additional health problems. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels, and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.
The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals 2015 guidebook, available in August.
