New York, New York (PRWEB) July 14, 2014
Gilbane Building Company today announced the company has been named “2014 Contractor of the Year” by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New York, a leading publication for the engineering and construction industry. The company was ranked 14th in ENR’s National Top 400 Contractors list in 2014, up from 21st the previous year. In the tri-state area, ENR NY ranked Gilbane 6th among the area’s top contractors this year.
“This is an amazing honor and a true testament to everyone’s hard work and dedication, and to the incredible achievements we have experienced over the past few years,” said William J. Gilbane III, Senior Vice President of Gilbane Building Company. “Our ongoing commitment to sustainability, diversity, safety and community building is at the cornerstone of Gilbane and the work that we do and it continues to set us apart.”
Gilbane employs more than 460 people in the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut tri-state area, and has a roster of impressive projects in the region including the massive restoration of the 85-year-old Kings Theatre in Brooklyn and the construction of the $299-million Henry J. Carter Specialty Hospital & Nursing Facility in East Harlem, which was completed last year. Gilbane was also one of six construction firms selected to manage construction under New York City’s Rapid Repairs Program, which was created in the wake of Superstorm Sandy to make homes quickly habitable again by restoring basic utilities.
Other Gilbane projects actively underway across the area include the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Buffalo, NY; Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY; the Rochester Schools Modernization Program Phase One , Rochester, NY; Hajjar STEM Center at the Dwight-Englewood School, Englewood, NJ; Oliver Street and Elliott Street Schools in Newark, NJ; County of Bergen Justice Center Complex, Hackensack, NJ; and the recently completed Danbury Hospital, Danbury, CT.
“Engineering News-Record’s regional editors consider several factors when choosing a specific region’s contractor of the year from the annual ranking list,” stated Esther D’Amico, Editor ENR New York. “These include firms with increases in year-over-year revenue as well as those with strong focuses on community outreach, diversity programs and safety. They chose Gilbane this year for hitting all those marks and standing out from the pack.”
An industry leader in applying construction strategies on its projects and with a steadfast focus on safety, sustainability and diversity, Gilbane increased its regional revenue from 2012 to 2013 by 11% to $946 million. ENR’s Contractor of the Year Award recognizes companies that demonstrate exemplary use of Construction Management techniques and services while demonstrating a strong record of supporting the environment, small businesses and the communities in which it works.
