MDX 2014-2015 Board Election Results in Return to Chair for Maritza Gutierrez
Miami, Fl (PRWEB) July 16, 2014 -- The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority’s Board of Directors has unanimously elected Maritza Gutierrez to reprise her role as its chair. The only woman to ever serve as MDX chair, Gutierrez previously held the position from July 2007 to June 2010.
President of Creative Ideas Advertising, Inc., Gutierrez was appointed to the MDX Board of Directors by the Miami-Dade County Commission. She is also the creator of a line of ethnic dolls and is an author of children’s books. Gutierrez was a strong advocate for local business preferences in the procurement of MDX contracts in her previous tenure as MDX chairwoman.
“This is a very exciting time for MDX as we complete the implementation of equitable tolling. As a steward of the public’s trust we will ensure that MDX continues to advance transportation infrastructure improvements that will benefit our community for generations to come and create job opportunities with our work program,” said Chairwoman Gutierrez. “I very grateful to my fellow board members for their vote of confidence.”
Also during the board of directors’ election, former Mayor of the City of Miami, Maurice A Ferré was elected vice chair and Carlos R. Fernandez-Guzman was elected as treasurer for a second term.
The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority’s board of directors brings a broad cross-section of transportation, business and professional expertise, as well as civic, environmental, county and state interest and commitment. Of the 13, 12 are volunteers, non-paid local business and civic leaders. The 13th member is the Florida Department of Transportation District Six Secretary, who serves as an ex-officio MDX board member. Of the 12 volunteers, Florida’s Governor appoints five of them and the Miami-Dade board of County Commissioners appoints the remaining seven members.
