PYA Congratulates The University of Kansas Hospital on Receiving an Innovation Grant to Develop More Effective Healthcare Delivery for Rural Kansans
Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) July 16, 2014 -- PYA, a national healthcare consulting and assurance firm, congratulates The University of Kansas Hospital on being awarded a grant from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) to develop a new healthcare delivery and payment model for rural Kansans.
CMMI considered more than 500 applicants, awarding 39 grants. The grant awarded to The University of Kansas Hospital was the seventh largest.
“We are thankful for the leadership PYA has contributed throughout the application process, beginning with their introduction of the concept to our team,” said Bob Page, President and Chief Executive Officer of The University of Kansas Hospital. “The combination of PYA’s relationships, experience, and innovative approach to new payment models aided in the submission of the successful application. We look forward to continuing our work with PYA as, together with Hays Medical Center and other partners, we work to provide higher quality, lower cost healthcare to rural Kansans.”
The Rural Clinically Integrated Network is a collaborative organization of independent providers committed to delivering quality care for a targeted rural population. The network will test a model to improve heart health and stroke survival in Kansas. The project will form a collaborative governance structure enabling providers serving rural Kansans to define and refine the entire care continuum.
Through clinical integration, these providers - from the hometown primary care physician to the state's academic medical center - will become a team accountable for population health. This model will develop "regional hubs" staffed by providers and health coaches serving multiple communities. Participating members will pursue collaborative implementation of clinical interventions to improve care and lower costs.
“We are thrilled for our clients to be recognized by the Health Care Innovation Program,” said Ed Pershing, PYA President. “Rural healthcare challenges are an issue throughout the nation, and we believe the Rural Clinically Integrated Network model will improve healthcare quality and efficiency while providing more access and lowering the overall cost of care. PYA professionals in our Kansas City office leveraged the firm’s nationwide resources to facilitate this innovative solution.”
The grant award is for a three-year period. CMS will evaluate the awards with the intention of replicating models that are successful in improving quality and access while reducing costs. For additional information regarding the Health Care Innovation Awards, please visit innovation.cms.gov.
