In today’s lesson, MacLennan teaches M7 (Major Seventh) chords, the melody that moves within the inner part of the chord by removing the fifth of the chord, leaving the root, seventh, and third – doing this frees up a finger to execute the melody. Jon demonstrates this by playing seventh chords and adding melody notes from the scale that lead into the next chord of the progression, and explains that chromatic notes can also be used in the same way. Jon says that this technique can be used in jazz and funk styles to add new life to your playing. Guitar TAB’s are available for this easy guitar lesson at GuitarControl.com.
A major seventh chord is a seventh chord where the third note is a major third above the root, and the seventh note is a major seventh above the root, a fifth above the third note.
