Fight Colorectal Cancer’s (Fight CRC) One Million Strong campaign, a movement creating awareness of colon and rectal cancer, will be in the Twin Cities area July 21-23 as part of the Pitch for Prevention campaign. Fight CRC will join forces with the Mayo Clinic and prostate cancer group Ed Randall’s Fans for the Cure to raise awareness of ‘below the belt’ cancers and encourage screening during the Twins series against the Cleveland Indians.
“We’ve been in New York City and Portland, Ore. so far this year, and we’re excited to host our final One Million Strong event in the Midwest in collaboration with two other outstanding groups committed to this cause,” said Anjee Davis, president of Fight Colorectal Cancer.
Mayo Clinic, Fans for the Cure and Fight CRC united to form a baseball-themed campaign, Pitch for Prevention, as a way to raise awareness and encourage screening specifically among men. For males living in the U.S., prostate cancer ranks number one among cancer cases; colorectal cancer ranks third. Prostate cancer is the number two cancer-killer among men in the U.S.; colorectal cancer is the number two cancer-killer among men AND women in the U.S.
The Pitch for Prevention campaign will include several events that bring awareness to the cancers. Some components include:
Live-Streamed Educational Event from Target Field
Experts from Mayo Clinic will speak to an audience of colorectal and prostate cancer survivors as they discuss the latest in treating colorectal cancer treatment. Country singer Craig Campbell will perform. The event will be lived-streamed and viewed real-time at PitchforPrevention.com at 4:30pm CT on July 21.
First Pitch by Colon Cancer Survivor Eric Powell
Colorectal cancer survivor Eric Powell will throw out the first pitch of the Monday, July 21 game.
March on the Field
A group of colon, rectal and prostate cancer survivors will march on the field before the July 21 game as Craig Campbell, recently named spokesman of Fight CRC, performs for the crowd. PSAs regarding cancer prevention will play on the Jumbotrons.
Educational Tables July 21-23
For each game against the Cleveland Indians, an educational table with representatives from Mayo Clinic, Fight CRC and Fans for the Cure will be on-site to speak with others about screening and distribute awareness materials. On July 21 an inflatable walk-through colon will be on-site.
