Mashable Adds Two New Members to its Board of Directors
(PRWEB) July 17, 2014 -- Mashable, the leading media company for the Connected Generation and the voice of digital culture, today announced the appointment of Jordan Kretchmer, founder and CEO of Livefyre and Barbara Messing, Chief Marketing Officer of TripAdvisor, to the company’s Board of Directors.
“As Mashable continues to thrive at the intersection of media and technology, I’m thrilled to welcome two executives to the Board who have a wealth of digital media, product and brand expertise,” said Pete Cashmore, founder, chairman and CEO of Mashable. “I’m delighted to have both Jordan and Barbara join Mashable’s Board of Directors.”
“Already one of the most successful companies in its category, Mashable is on an aggressive path to grow and expand further,” said Jordan Kretchmer. “I’m inspired by Pete’s vision, and the exciting opportunity to be a part of Mashable’s strategy as it transforms into the leading source of news for the Connected Generation. I look forward to joining the Board and sharing in this journey.”
"Over the past nine years, Mashable has built a powerful brand through strong credibility, a passionate and engaged audience, and commitment to its mission,” said Barbara Messing. “The team has created a world-class media company and I look forward to joining the Board and playing a role in its continued evolution.”
Jordan Kretchmer currently leads Livefyre, the fourth largest site network online, which he founded in 2009. Livefyre represents more than 1,000 enterprise customers including global brands such as CBS, Condé Nast, NASCAR, FOX, Unilever and Universal Music Group. He was also named to Inc.’s 2014 “35 under 35.”
Prior to founding Livefyre, Kretchmer spent nine years in the advertising industry, holding Vice President and Creative Director positions at Mullen Advertising in Boston and Butler Shine Stern Partners in San Francisco, where he managed the digital development teams.
Barbara Messing is the Chief Marketing Officer of TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site. She leads all global consumer marketing activities at TripAdvisor, including brand development and experience, customer relationship marketing, communications, search engine marketing, traffic acquisition, mobile partnerships and green initiatives.
Prior to joining TripAdvisor, Messing spent nine years at Hotwire where she served in a number of senior leadership roles. In 2014, Messing was honored at the AWNY’s Changing the Game Awards, and in 2011 was named a "Brand Genius" by Adweek. She holds a B.A. from Northwestern University and a J.D. from Stanford University.
Kretchmer and Messing will be joining the Board alongside Chairman Pete Cashmore, Founder and CEO of Mashable; Jon Seeber, Partner at Updata Partners; and a yearly rotating seat from Mashable’s Operating Committee. The Operating Committee directs the company’s planning, strategy and operations, and consists of Mike Kriak, Stacy Martinet, Adam Ostrow, Robyn Peterson, Jim Roberts and Seth Rogin.
In February, Mashable closed its $14 million Series A capital raise, which was led by Updata Partners. Since closing the capital raise Mashable has continued to accelerate its revenue growth, as well as develop its audience to 35 million monthly unique visitors and 17 million social media followers, and double its headcount, including hires in Los Angeles and Australia.
The funding is fostering the company’s rapid expansion by bolstering its editorial operations, growing its global audience, developing new technology products, expanding its advertising offerings, as well as opening larger headquarters in New York City and a new office in London, which will take place later this year.
