Columbia Southern University Presents Mid-States Fire Conference
Orange Beach, AL (PRWEB) July 16, 2014 -- Columbia Southern University invites firefighters, fire officers and others in the fire service to attend the Mid-States Fire Conference on July 30 through Aug. 1 at the Embassy Suites Northwest Arkansas Hotel, Spa & Convention Center in Rogers, Ark.
“This conference is another opportunity for firefighters and officers to spend a day with other fire service folks and exchange ideas about a host of subjects and issues that they deal with every day,” said John Salka, retired New York fire chief and guest speaker.
Salka, one of five featured speakers, will address “Five Alarm Leadership” at the annual event presented by CSU.
“Two points I always stress at the beginning of the program are that each and every one of us has a unique set of leadership skills and abilities. Do what feels comfortable and it will be right,” explained Salka, who served 33 years with the New York Fire Department.
“The second is that leadership is the single most important skill that a fire service officer can possess. It is an enhancer and improves our performance in every other aspect of our work.”
Salka added that his presentation will look at making the decision to take on a leadership role, how to innovate and adjust tactics to fit a situation, maintaining a high level of integrity and recognizing what behaviors make the best impression.
Other speakers and topics at the Mid-States Fire Conference include:
• “Becoming a Visionary – The Greatest Leaders have Vision: Learning to Develop and Deliver Yours,” Michael Euliss, president of the Euliss Consulting Group, Inc.
• “Observations from 30,000” – Modern Challenges and Opportunities for the Modern Fire Service” Tim Sendelbach, editor-in-chief of FireRescue magazine
• “Concept of Leadership in the U.K., U.S., and Taiwan,” John Michael Moschella, Ph.D.
• “Thinking Ethically - Thinking Leadership,” Kevin Brame, a retired fire chief for North Las Vegas Fire Department
Conference fees are $125 for basic registration and $100 per person in group rate for five or more. Visit http://www.ColumbiaSouthern.edu/Events now to register.
