BRILLIANT and Annual Sponsor Tenenbaum & Co. to Present Critically-Acclaimed “Marilyn Forever Blonde!” Shows Featuring Actress and Singer Sunny Thompson at Wortham Center
HOUSTON, Texas (PRWEB) July 19, 2014 -- Anyone who is fascinated with the trials and tribulations of the late actress Marilyn Monroe will enjoy the critically acclaimed “Marilyn Forever Blonde! The Marilyn Monroe Story in Her Own Words and Music,” a one-woman show starring award-winning actress and singer Sunny Thompson. The show will be presented by BRILLIANT and annual sponsor Tenenbaum & Co. on three consecutive nights, Aug. 21-23, at 8 p.m. at Wortham Center in Houston’s downtown Theatre District.
Shortly before her untimely death, Marilyn Monroe posed for what would be her final photo session. “Marilyn Forever Blonde!” is a recreation of what might have been Marilyn’s last chance to tell her own story through her own words and her own music. The play is set in 1962, and Marilyn is in the midst of a photo shoot. She is divorced for a third time, living alone, frustrated by Hollywood and tired of the “sex symbol” label. She longs to be respected for her talent and loved for who she really is rather than the character she has created for the silver screen. She wonders what it would be like to do it all over again.
The play, which debuted in Hollywood in 2007, was conceived by award-winning producer and writer Greg Thompson. The show includes quotes from Marilyn herself and features 17 songs from her motion pictures. Sunny Thompson, who assumes the character of Marilyn Monroe in this production, has earned rave reviews from critics throughout the United States, Canada, New Zealand, South America and London’s West End. She also has won several prestigious awards throughout her career, including the Lee Hartgrave Award for Acting and a gold record for her international hit “Te Necesito.” “Marilyn Forever Blonde!” won The Connecticut Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Road Show in 2008.
”The play is funny, sad, witty, titillating, and sometimes scandalous. In the end, what unfolds on stage is heartbreaking as my audiences watch the portrayal of the desperation of a young woman lost in a world of Hollywood make-believe,” Sunny Thompson explained. “Marilyn clearly exuded a little girl character even as an adult. I convey the nuances of her personality in a very, very subtle way: I try as best as I can to portray the woman behind the legend."
Scott Brogan, founder of BRILLIANT, commented: “Sunny Thompson is absolutely stunning in the role of Marilyn Monroe. She delivers an authentic portrayal of the sad and celebrated life of Marilyn Monroe by flawlessly channeling her mannerisms and voice patterns. Moreover, Sunny is a delightful person. All of us associated with BRILLIANT are honored to know and work with her and her team.”
