Genscape's new LandViewer platform offers dual-level, real-time images of critical growing variables allowing growers, traders, and grain buyers to correlate crop conditions with regional pricing information. “While NASA is publishing satellite vegetation vigor every 16 days, Genscape processes NASA vegetation vigor data daily for a strong indicator of crop progress,” said Dr. Steffen Mueller, senior director for Genscape. “This provides LandViewer users with a much more real-time view of current crop conditions.”

Starting in late June, LandViewer’s patented modeling process uses the satellite data, in combination with other weather and growing variables, to provide a highly accurate, bi-weekly crop yield forecast for over 1,400 counties in the top corn producing states. The national, state, and county-level yield forecasts are complemented by the daily updated LandViewer dashboard that features a dual-viewer display, daily corn prices, analytics capability, and 10-year supporting data for weather, soil moisture, and satellite vegetation vigor for each county.

“We are reaching a key time during this year’s growing season. Our next national forecast will be released at the end of July, providing critical yield and production information ahead of the USDA report on August 12th,” added Dr. Mueller.

The forecast model is complemented by “boots on the ground” observations from a team of 12 experienced, independent crop consultants who issue a weekly progress report for key growing regions. A sample Crop Consultants’ Report is available for download: http://info.genscape.com/crop-consultant-launch.

Many growing variable maps and analytic tools are available for public use on the Genscape LandViewer website. Those who register for a free LandViewer account in the next 10 days will also receive a complimentary 2014 subscription to the weekly Crop Consultant Report, delivered on Friday afternoons, well before USDA’s Monday afternoon crop report.
