Formally announced today, the agreement for RICOH CANADA Inc. to acquire COMMONWEALTH LEGAL Inc. closed on June 30, 2014, just 3-weeks after the definitive agreement to acquire was signed.

According to Karen Brookman, President of Commonwealth Legal, “The Ricoh Canada and Commonwealth Legal teams worked seamlessly together resulting in a highly efficient closing process. It was a positive experience, which further demonstrated the synergistic nature of our two organizations.”

Commonwealth Legal has been the Canadian market leader for ediscovery and litigation support solutions for almost 15 years, providing the only ISO 9001:2008 quality-certified ediscovery in the country. This expertise, along with their unique Managed Services offering, complements Ricoh Canada’s strong reputation for Legal Document Services (LDS) – a portfolio of services that deliver Document Management/Content Management offerings, including document imaging and IT services, tailored specifically to the legal market. The transaction provides tremendous benefits for both organizations, and significantly impacts the quality of products and services available to their Canadian clients in the litigation support services space.

“We are excited to witness firsthand the evolution of ediscovery and legal document services in Canada,” says Kelly Inglese, Director of Litigation Support Services at Fasken Martineau. “As a client of both Ricoh Canada and Commonwealth Legal, we look forward to experiencing the benefits of a combined service offering that supports our needs from onsite document management through to cloud services.”

Immediately following Ricoh Canada’s announcement to acquire Commonwealth Legal, Technology in Practice 2014 was announced to be hosted at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto from November 5-7, 2014. The two-day conference is the litigation technology and ediscovery conference attended by leading legal and IT professionals and experts across Canada.

“With Ricoh’s full support, we are immediately moving forward together with the planning of our seventh Technology in Practice 2014 conference,” says Jennifer Johnson, Vice President of Commonwealth Legal. “The conference is the ideal opportunity for Commonwealth Legal and Ricoh Canada to demonstrate our comprehensive service offering that is now available to support the success of legal document services and ediscovery in Canada.”

Commonwealth Legal will continue to service their customers as they do today, and will effectively remain unchanged from an operational perspective.

Commonwealth Legal is the Canadian leader for secure cloud-based ediscovery and archiving solutions with a focus on providing secure, high quality solutions that are cost effective for clients. With 15 years of experience servicing both Canadian and international markets, Commonwealth Legal has built a strong reputation for unparalleled customer service, quality control levels, expertise and professionalism.
