West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) July 22, 2014 -- Vegalab, the formulator and manufacturer of environmentally responsible agricultural products rooted in sustainability, welcomes Shea Dunifon-Porta as its new Agronomist. Shea brings seven years of experience in the Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, designing and implementing research projects, investigating the effects of various amendments on soil microbiology and chemistry, and providing a local expertise in crop production in the Southeastern United States to the Vegalab team.
Shea received her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies with a minor in Chemistry from Florida International University in Miami, FL in 2007. Shea received her Master of Science in Crop and Soil Environmental Science from Virginia Tech in 2009 where she wrote her thesis on the benefits of composts for revegetating turf grasses on disturbed soils devoid of nutrients and beneficial microorganisms. Her thesis research was published in the trade journal, Compost Science and Utilization (2011), which she also reviewed research articles for.
In addition, Shea served on two committees for the Soil Science Society of America, and has presented more than a dozen scientific presentations at various Conferences, including the Virginia Recycling Association, the US Compost Council, and the Annual American Society of Agronomy International Meetings.
Prior to joining Vegalab, Shea worked with the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Miami to describe the native microorganisms found in Florida soils as a Laboratory Manager for a private company in Texas specializing in compost teas, and most recently, she provided soil expertise to two non-profit botanical gardens, helping them improve their plants’ health while incorporating more sustainable alternatives to pest and disease management through natural products and integrated pest management techniques.
“Shea’s wealth of experience and knowledge in the Soil Sciences has already made her a key addition to the Vegalab team. We view her appointment as a sign of our commitment to being leaders in this industry,” said Jill Duggan, CEO of Vegalab LLC. “Our new innovations and the increasing demand for effective, natural, and environmentally responsible products, led us to look for an addition to our team with a profound understanding and appreciation for sustainability in the Agricultural Sciences. We are excited to have Shea on board.”
In her new role, Shea will be responsible for managing existing customers and supporting the sales team with her industry knowledge. She will lead the efforts of product education, develop protocols, and conduct field trials. Additionally, she will provide agronomical consultations (fertilizer and pesticide application) to the farmers of different levels across the world and present Vegalab Company and different approaches to IPM in sustainable agricultural production at the seminars, exhibitions, and field days.
