RebelLabs Identifies the Top 10 Technologies Modern Developers Love and Names 2014 Geek Choice Award Winners
Boston, Mass. (PRWEB) July 22, 2014 -- RebelLabs, the technical content and community site for developers sponsored by ZeroTurnaround, today announced the findings of its 26th research report, “10 Kick-Ass Technologies Modern Developers Love."
Researchers and subject-matter experts from RebelLabs sought to answer the burning question every developer has asked themselves: How do you know when a technology is going to change your life?
Motivated by a desire to identify which technologies are loved and chosen specifically by developers, and to understand why they are so beloved by geeks, RebelLabs gathered market data from more than 2,000 developers across the globe and combined this data with other determining factors: market buzz including press coverage, social media share-of-voice, community presence, and anecdotal evidence to compile the inaugural list.
“We’ve all heard so much about this tool being amazing, and that tool changing your life, but why not actually put some statistics together to see which technologies developers truly love to use, rather than the market share of a particular tool?” said Oliver White, Head of RebelLabs and the report’s author.
The “10 Kick-Ass Technologies Modern Developers Love” and 2014 Geek Choice Award Winners are listed below in alphabetical order:
1. Confluence
2. Git
3. Gradle
4. Groovy
5. IntelliJ IDEA
6. Jenkins
7. JIRA
8. MongoDB
9. Scala
10. Tomcat +TomEE
The findings are an eclectic mix of JVM languages, IDEs, app servers and build and productivity tools. All are celebrated technologies used by the developers to build and maintain quality software, achieve business goals, ensure customer satisfaction and make the software game brighter.
“Naturally, there are dozens more great technologies out there that fit this profile, and we’re looking forward to discovering those in the future,” continued White. “That’s why we’re excited to announce the RebelLabs Geek Choice Awards – so that we can continue to recognize the great technologies that have a profound impact on the lives of developers.”
Details of the awards reception are forthcoming, but winners can expect to be recognized in person during JavaOne/Oracle OpenWorld, Sept. 28-Oct. 2, 2014 in San Francisco. Developers around the world are encouraged to nominate novel technologies in the comments section of this report for future Geek Choice Award recognition.
