Clarion Safety Systems, a leading designer and manufacturer of safety signs and safety labels, has produced a video on swimming pool safety and effective pool safety signs. The piece is part of a series of short, educational videos designed to serve as a resource in promoting a better understanding of current best practices in the design of product safety labels and safety sign systems.

The goal of the video is to educate and raise awareness on the risks associated with drowning and to explain how a best practice safety sign system can serve to more effectively communicate water hazards and risks.

In its 4-minute video, “Preventing Swimming Pool Accidents and Lawsuits,” Clarion explains common hazards and important warnings associated with aquatic environments, such as watch your children, non-swimmers wear life jackets, no diving, and no long breath holding. The video also provides information on the legal duty to warn for aquatic facilities and tips on how current warnings can be improved upon to be more effective and better understood by guests.

The video is narrated by Geoffrey Peckham, Clarion CEO and chair of both the ANSI Z535 Committee for Safety Signs and Colors and the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 145 – Graphical Symbols, and Dr. Tom Griffiths, an expert from the Aquatics Safety Research Group.

“When we’re talking about risk reduction and liability prevention, as a facility owner, you want to be in a place where you can say, ‘What more could we have done?’” says Peckham. “Using an effective, standards-based pool safety sign system – where warnings are clear and repeated for added reinforcement – can give you the confidence to know that you’ve helped to reduce liability risk for your organization and, more importantly, are better protecting people from harm.”

In 2012, Clarion and the Aquatics Safety Research Group combined their expertise in safety standards, signage and aquatics to develop an innovative system of pool safety signs that is designed with clear graphical symbols to draw attention to core safety messages, complies with the latest standards to fulfill the legal duty to warn, and has been tested on viewers and proven to be quickly recognized and easily understood.

The video is available through the Clarion website’s video library as well as through the company’s YouTube channel.
