Oakland Launches Summer Advertising Campaign in Sacramento
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2014 -- Visit Oakland, the official destination marketing organization for the city of Oakland, launched its latest advertising campaign today, entitled “Summer is Cool in Oakland”, targeted at the greater Sacramento area. Running throughout August and September, the multi-channel promotion is intended to create destination awareness, drive leisure travel to Oakland for the city’s summer festival season and offer Sacramento residents a ‘cool’ alternative to the central valley heat.
After more than a year of research, Visit Oakland and tourism research firm Young Strategies have identified the regional and coastal drive markets as prime areas for growth in both leisure and business travel segments. Sacramento in particular, due to its proximity and variety of convenient transportation options, has and continues to be an important market for Oakland in attracting overnight visitors.
“We are excited to showcase Oakland’s wonderful festivals and summer events, which are some of the best that northern California has to offer,” said Natalie Alvanez, Director of Marketing and Operations at Visit Oakland, “Summer is cool here, and it’s not just the temperature.”
The “Summer is Cool in Oakland” campaign promotes a variety of summer themed hotel packages and the city’s summer festival season, which is one of the busiest and most well attended in the region. Key events include: Art & Soul - a festival and barbeque competition celebrating art, food and music (8/2 – 8/3); Urban Wine Xperience - a showcase of the city’s 11 wineries (8/2); Oakland Pride - one of the largest LGBTQ parades in the Bay Area (8/31); and Eat Real - a craft food and beverage festival (9/19 – 9/21). Visitors can find a complete list of events and book travel at visitoakland.org/coolsummer.
The campaign kicked off today with a variety of traditional and non-traditional media buys, including street teams, digital radio advertisements with Pandora, and sponsored traffic and weather reports across some of the Central Valley’s top radio stations. Listeners tuning in to V101, B92.5 and KFBK will have a chance to win one of five trips to Oakland, which include overnight accommodations and travel.
Visit Oakland also partnered with Amtrak and Capitol Corridor for the campaign, in order to target Sacramento commuters and provide a convenient transportation solution for Sacramento area residents traveling to the Bay Area. Campaign posters will be featured prominently on the Capitol Corridor line and trains throughout the central valley. In addition, travelers taking the Capital Corridor to Oakland can take advantage of the special Take 5 fare promotion: purchase one full-fare train ticket and bring up to five additional guests for $5 each person, each way.
