Study finds 4 in 10 parents can’t properly dose liquid medications and new app OTCPlus by Ace innovation Group helps clear confusion at the Rx aisle. New research has found that many Americans become confused when dealing with over-the-counter medications, and thereby increase their odds of taking the wrong dosage.

OTCplus saves time, money and frustration when selecting over the counter medications.

The mobile phone app OTC-Plus was designed specifically to help people navigate their over-the-counter options with greater clarity.

A study published in the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics was conducted by Dr. Shonna Yin of NYU’s Langone Medical Center. She found that over 10,000 calls to poison centers each year are due to confusion over liquid dosages alone.
From confusion over differing measuring units, to the recommended dosage amounts for adults versus children, Yin warns it often leads to parents double-dosing their young ones by mistake.

When tested, roughly 40 percent of parents in the study incorrectly measured out the actual dosage called for. According to Yin, consumers often don’t distinguish between a teaspoon and tablespoon.

The mobile phone app OTC-Plus was designed specifically to help people navigate their over-the-counter options with greater clarity. It links users to recommended medications based directly on their symptoms.

The app also helps target special discounts and coupons that the average consumer might otherwise be unaware of.

According to Dr. Sandeep Grewal, innovator of the OTC-Plus, “When you’re not feeling well, you’re more likely to get lost on your pharmacy aisle. OTC-Plus helps you pinpoint exactly what you need, and hopefully for less money.”

“It’s an especially important issue with children,” Dr. Grewal explains in a statement. “They can be much more susceptible to an overdosage compared to a full-grown adult.”

OTC-Plus was developed by Ace Innovation Group and is available on both the Android and iPhone platforms. For more information, call (803) 325 2236 or visit http://aceinnovationgroup.com/our-mobile-apps/otcplus-app/.
