American Pregnancy Association Celebrates Worldwide Breastfeeding Week With Breastfeeding Contest
Irving, Texas (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- The American Pregnancy Association helps women with health education from conception through the early weeks after birth. Breastfeeding is one of the most important health concerns for newborns.
Dr. Brad Imler, Association President, stated, "Breastfeeding is the healthiest option for feeding newborns. The benefits have been well documented for relational, physical and mental development. Feeding your newborn is a bonding experience which affirms the mother-baby relationship, while providing superior nutrition for growing babies."
As the healthiest and most recommended option for feeding your newborn baby, the World Breastfeeding Week Alliance (WABA) has declared the official World Breastfeeding Week to be from August 1st through August 7th, 2014.
The American Pregnancy Association joins WABA in honoring breastfeeding during the official week by launching a daily breastfeeding contest through the Association's Facebook page. Through this educational contest women and families will learn about some of the benefits of breastfeeding and have fun along the way.
Breastfeeding is the healthiest option for babies, but moms also benefit as well. Mothers can expect a decrease in postpartum blood loss, decreased breast and ovarian cancer potential, and a reduced risk of developing osteoporosis.
In addition to promoting health, breastfeeding also features practical benefits. For example, it is free and availability is on demand. Breastfeeding is also environmentally conscious as there is an absence of pharmaceutical, plastic and aluminum waste.
Mother's and expecting mothers can participate by submitting breastfeeding pictures and responding to breastfeeding related questions. The mission of the contest is two-fold; the first goal is to celebrate breastfeeding week, and the second more important objective is to create awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding.
Nordic Naturals, an organization committed to enhancing maternal and child health, is collaborating with the Association by providing omega-3 health baskets for winners. Official contest rules will be featured on the Association's Facebook page. Participation is free and winners will be randomly selected.
Expecting and new mothers are encouraged to join the Facebook fun and help share the insights on the benefits of breastfeeding. The goal is helping babies have a healthy start.
The American Pregnancy Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to promoting pregnancy wellness through education, advocacy, and community awareness. Supporting breastfeeding and the World Breastfeeding Week are directly in line with the mission and goals of the Association.
