New Study Reveals Industry-Specific Employer Training is Key for the Future of Atlanta's Mobility IT Workforce
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 29, 2014 -- Today, MDI Group, a leading national IT staffing and recruiting services provider headquartered in Atlanta, announces the findings from its Atlanta Mobility IT Workforce study. The study was conducted in partnership with BlueFletch Mobile as part of the Metro Atlanta Chamber's Mobility Taskforce initiative to position Atlanta as the premier global hub for mobile technology. Atlanta is currently among the fastest growing metropolitan areas for mobility resources, ranked #3 in the U.S. and #9 in the world, according to May 2014 LinkedIn data.
“Mobility is one of the top five technology trends that will have the most impact on our society in the near-term,” said Richey Brownfield, Chief Executive Officer for MDI Group. “The demand for knowledgeable IT professionals is already at an all-time high level in Atlanta, and most of the needs are directly related to major mobility projects.”
MDI Group’s study polled more than 1,300 Atlanta IT hiring managers with midsize to large businesses whose organization has an annual IT budget of at least one million dollars. The study asked five key questions designed to identify the supply and shortcomings associated with Atlanta’s skilled mobility workforce.
“A key finding from the study is that hiring managers value employer training more than undergraduate degrees or post-graduate skill certifications,” said John Hurst, managing director of MDI Group's Atlanta office. “By creating their own industry-specific training, Atlanta employers can help cultivate a mobility IT workforce that will support not only their business objectives but our overall economic development, as well.”
According to respondents, many IT professionals can be trained to meet specific needs of mobile technology. The majority of hiring managers (61%) agree that overall technical experience is more valuable than experience specific to mobility (27%) when hiring talent. The majority of Atlanta IT professionals (71%) also agree that skill sets are “transferable” from other IT projects rather than “mobility specific” ones. The demand for IT talent includes the need for professionals who can competently address user interface design, cross-platform mobile development and mobile application testing.
It is anticipated that use of third-party staffing providers like MDI Group will continue to be key for businesses that need to rapidly source and recruit IT professionals who are the best fit for a company’s specific technical requirements, departmental processes, business objectives, strategic goals and cultural style. The IT staffing industry has experienced an 8% annual growth rate consecutively in the last four years, according to Staffing Industry Analysts.
