Children’s Specialized Hospital is the nation’s largest pediatric rehabilitation hospital dedicated to serving children with a variety of special needs, including autism. The hospital is the state’s largest provider of autism services including community education, medical research, early diagnosis and treatment.
Children’s Specialized Hospital will be the first hospital in the nation providing this type of virtual community hub. The site provides access to resources for community-based information and downloadable multimedia videos that are all in one place and are just a click away. Once on the site, there will be a variety of different links to discover all sorts of information and activities.
The community hub has a vast array of resources waiting to be found. For example, there is a “Recreation Center” which offers ways to adapt recreation programs for people who have autism. New and current resources will be added on a regular basis. These resources will include informational materials as well as a billboard for announcements for upcoming presentations, webinars, videos and educational workshops, provided by experts at Children’s Specialized Hospital.
“There currently is no other centralized setting to access comprehensive, reliable community-based information for individuals with autism, families, service providers/professionals and practitioners,” said Adrienne Robertiello, autism educator, Children’s Specialized Hospital. “Now, this virtual town will be one reliable source with credible information, all at their fingertips.”
Since 2001, Kohl’s has donated more than $4.7 million to Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation.
Kohl's commitment to Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation is made possible through the Kohl's Cares cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells $5 books and plush toys, with 100 percent of net profit benefiting children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one.
“Children’s Specialized Hospital would like to thank Kohl’s for their continued support, said Philip Salerno III, president and chief development officer at Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation. “It is with their support that we are able to continue to be a valuable resource for improving autism awareness for children, families and the community.”
This program was funded by Kohl’s Cares. Provided is the link to access the virtual community hub. http://www.childrens-specialized.org/kohlsautismawareness
