Lancaster, California (PRWEB) July 30, 2014 -- A new Kickstarter project has been launched to fund noted custom speaker and THX screening room designer, Mark Hovanec, to take the completed, fully operational affordable state-of-the-art loudspeaker prototype to production ready status.
At the end of the project, a manufacturing reference master for full production will be complete, along with three completed pairs. One pair will be kept for ongoing development; another for audio reviewers, and the last pair will be available to one backer if they reach a specific level of contribution.
“People want quality sound. They’re tired of compressed music. These audiophile speakers are designed to compete with speakers up to ten or more times the cost,” says Hovanec who adds some background about the industry:
“In 1972 Arnie Nudell drove high end audio with the Infinity Servo Static 1A that cost over $3000 at that time. For many years, audiophiles waged war when home theater was introduced and the consumer trend shifted toward 5 tiny speakers with a subwoofer. The high end suffered - and so did the music with MP3 compression for portable players. Well many endured and even held vinyl records as a reference. Tube amps were popular. But what if a consumer wants pure sound and don't have the money? Brian Cheney owned VMPS and did just that. Cheney built quality speakers that frustrated the high-priced, esoteric companies. He sold factory direct and audiophiles sang his praises. Sadly, VMPS died along with Cheney.”
According to Hovanec, “The designs at VMPS embodied his philosophy about quality and value pricing - so the committed audiophile could get a speaker that actually sounds like music without having to own a tuxedo just to audition it. And that’s a strong principle behind this project.”
Hovanec played piano for years and understands when a speaker sounds like a speaker; and when it disappears and sounds like music. With eclectic tastes - the operational prototype literally disappears and delivers silky-smooth, fluid highs, and an honest midrange. The imaging is holographic placing each voice and instrument precisely in space. The toughest transition from the midrange to the lows is achieved without flaw. There is no muddiness in the lower register of the male voice; and every bass note is rendered individually as if the listener was in the recording studio or recording venue.
The goal of this Kickstarter project is to create audiophile speakers at reasonable prices. Depending on the level of participation backers will either get a T-shirt, a small limited edition pair of 2-way speakers. And one backer will receive a signed pair of production speakers serial numbers 001 and 002.
