Aventura, FL Local Business Disaster Due to Lighting, Keeping One Business Alive and Well
Aventura, FL – On Monday July 14th, 2014 lightning struck a transformer at the City National Bank building located at 2875 NE 191 St in Aventura, Florida where the Klein, Mendez, & Rothbard, LLC, offices are located. No one realized just how disastrous the situation would be. The transformer subsequently blew up temporarily shutting down more than 50 businesses in the building. After most of the day went by before the transformer was replaced, KMR employees watched as the power was restored. However, upon restoration, polarity was reversed and a small electrical fire started in the offices. As of today July 31st the building still has no power.
This series of events left the Aventura CPA office without power and partner Marty Rothbard very concerned about his ability to keep the business operating. Thanks to the disaster recovery and business continuity plan implemented by Nerds Support his employees are able to work from home, but it would be more than two weeks before power was expected to be restored. Rothbard stated “At the beginning, I figured it was a big deal. Luckily, we had a disaster recovery and business continuity plan in place for our systems with Nerds Support.” This allowed us to continue business as usual. Many companies in the building were not so lucky.
Because KMR had satellite offices that interconnect and aging technology systems, they wanted a better solution overall. After experiencing the extended loss of power caused by a single lightning strike, Rothbard and other KMR executives realize just how smart their decision was to change their infrastructure according to Nerds Support’s recommendation.
Nerds Support founder Scott Richman had previously evaluated the systems and technology of the KMR CPA firm. His company put together a full-service solution for KMR including a disaster recovery plan for business continuity using cloud technology. When the lightning damaged the building and wiped out electricity for several weeks, KMR staff had the capability to work anywhere, from any device, without moving a single piece of equipment. They could access their entire network from every satellite office, from any employee’s home, and from anywhere they chose to work.
Scott Richman owner of Nerds Support states “We were pleased with how well and quickly KMR was able to recover after their emergency. It’s a nice testament to what our team of technicians can do for a small to medium-sized business even with budgetary concerns. KMR had everything they needed to get right back to business. Unfortunately a lot of other businesses suffered the loss because they are unaware there are great affordable options out there. I know what it is like to run a small business so I have put a lot of time and consideration into how best to support the local small to medium business community.”
