Connectivity is the driving force behind our WiFi expansion; our customers love using their mobile devices when on the go, and Optimum WiFi keeps them connected

Cablevision Systems Corp. today announced that its Optimum WiFi network has extended its reach to more than one million hotspots. Optimum WiFi, which is included at no additional charge for Optimum Online customers, now offers fast, reliable, and unlimited wireless internet access at more locations than ever before, providing a convenient alternative to pricey, capped cellular data plans.

Optimum WiFi’s expansion to one million hotspots comes as data usage on mobile devices continues to rise - according to a recent report from Cisco, mobile data traffic in the U.S. grew by 75 percent in 2013 and is expected to grow eight-fold by 2018. Today, Optimum WiFi hosts more than 250 million sessions every month, with customers averaging 4GB of data per month, which exceeds the data limits of many common cellular data plans.

“Connectivity is the driving force behind our WiFi expansion; our customers love using their mobile devices when on the go, and Optimum WiFi keeps them connected,” said Kevin Packingham, Cablevision’s executive vice president of product. “We are pleased that more than a million customers have heartily embraced this service, passing more and more data over Optimum WiFi as an alternative to cellular data plans.”

In addition to great local coverage, new marquee locations that have recently launched include:

  •     Coney Island Boardwalk: Visitors to this historic seaside neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY can stay connected to Optimum WiFi along the boardwalk from W. 21st Street to the Aquarium building at W. 10th Street.
  •     Long Beach Boardwalk: Announced earlier this July, Optimum WiFi is available at nearly 60 hotspots along the newly rebuilt 2.2-mile oceanfront boardwalk in Long Beach, NY.
  •     NJ TRANSIT Stations: Optimum WiFi is now available at 24 NJ TRANSIT rail stations, part of the initial phase of Cablevision’s agreement with NJ TRANSIT to provide WiFi in the agency’s station and trains. The latest stations to be equipped with WiFi include Belmar, Bradley Beach, Denville, Glen Rock (Main Line), Lincoln Park, Manasquan, Mount Tabor, Mountain Lakes, Mountain View, Oradell, Suffern, Towaco, and Woodcliff Lake. Customers can find Optimum WiFi at many other convenient locations, including local businesses, shopping centers, major streets, parks, marinas, sports fields, and more. Customers can sign in and stay connected to Optimum WiFi seamlessly with the “Automatic Sign In” feature, which enables users to sign in to Optimum WiFi just once and automatically connect to the network whenever they are in an Optimum hotspot.
