Laptop Scholarship Program for Disadvantaged Kids in Saint Louis
Saint Louis, Missouri (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- The Wendl Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Saint Louis has started a crowdfunding campaign at indiegogo.com. Our organization distributes laptop computers to disadvantaged children living in the St. Louis School District. Based on the latest state test scores, only about 25% of students in the district are proficient in reading and mathematics -- some of the worst in the country.
For parents of limited incomes that live in St. Louis, there are fewer educational options for their children. There are only so many needs-based scholarships to private brick-and-mortar schools and charter schools have limited space. A poor parent in St. Louis has only one option at that point: opt out of the traditional school system and have their child use an online/virtual school.
The main constraint in attending a virtual school is the cost of a laptop computer. It is not affordable for many of these parents. Our project provides scholarships in the form of a laptop computer for children living in St. Louis who qualify for the federal free and reduced student lunch program and who use a virtual school option.
If we can provide these children with a laptop scholarship, they can access a number of free online educational resources. Please help us achieve our goal of raising $100,000 to purchase laptops for these children. Thank you for reviewing our project. Feel free to view our video presentation listed below.
