WEST END Takes Home Two Awards At The Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles Bringing Its Total To Six
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- Independent Film, WEST END walked away with two awards for individual effort, a first for this multiple-award-winning independent film. Writer-Director, Joe Basile, won Best Director, Narrative Feature Film and Best Supporting Actor, Feature Film went to Joe Nieves at the Filmmakers Award Ceremony presented by the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles(DFFLA).
WEST END marks Writer-Director, Joe Basile’s directorial debut. Basile is a journeyman actor, whose focus shifted toward filmmaking after he received his MFA in Screenwriting from UCLA’s acclaimed film program.
Joe Nieves gives an award winning performance as WEST END’s antagonist, Angelo “Buddy” Buccelatto. Nieves has had recurring roles on "The Mentalist", "Southland", and most notably as “Carl the Bartender” on "How I Met Your Mother". Other credits include: "The Bling Ring", "Grey's Anatomy", "CSI: NY", "Prime Suspect", "24", and "Castle".
“WEST END was in good company. Crisp storytelling, inspired directing and top notch performances gave it an edge over the other films,” says Carolyn Schroeder, DFFLA Film Curator.
WEST END has won a total of six awards in seven film festivals including: “Best Homegrown Feature” and the “Audience Award” at the Garden State Film Festival, “SOHO’s Pick” at the SOHO International Film Festival, and “Best Crime Drama” at the Manhattan Film Festival.
WEST END is an “Official Selection” at 2014 New York Independent Film Festival this October.
Other feature film winners at the DFFLA were "The Algerian", Best Actor – Narrative Feature Film – Ben Youcef and Best Feature Film – Narrative. Jake Squared won two awards, Best Actress, Narrative Feature Film Virginia Madsen and Best Supporting Actress, Narrative Feature Film – Jane Seymour.
