The Mushroom Festival in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania Announces 3rd Annual National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship to Include $1,800 Prize Pool
Kennett Square, PA (PRWEB) August 04, 2014 -- Now entering its third consecutive year, The Mushroom Festival National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship Presented by Buona Foods, will be the highlight of the afternoon’s entertainment on September 6th in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania at the World’s finest and most attended Mushroom Festival. Known as the region that supplies over 65% of the nation’s mushrooms, Kennett Square also became known as the home of the World’s only officially sanctioned Fried Mushroom Competitive Eating Championship in 2012 and the World Fried Mushroom Eating Record in 2013. The event has had participation from over 30 different eaters including both Professionals and Amateurs. All Pro Eating will once again officially sanction this year’s Mushroom Festival National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship Presented by Buona Foods and cash prizes will be awarded to both Professional Competitive Eaters and Amateur/Local participants. The main prize pool includes $1,800.00 and both the highest finishing male and female amateur or local eaters will each win $200.00.
The featured Professional Competitive Eaters include last year’s winner, Molly Schuyler and one of Competitive Eating’s most imposing and entertaining personalities, Will “The Champ” Millender. Molly Schuyler shocked the entire World last year after setting a new World Fried Mushroom Eating Record after eating 9 pounds of delicious Buona Foods Fried Mushrooms in 8 minutes. She defends her Fried Mushroom Eating Championship title and #1 Ranking at this year’s event against a large and talented field. Will Millender will bring plenty of attitude and experience to this year’s Fried Mushroom Eating Championship and plans to have a strong performance.
“I believe that Kennett Square should be recommended as a site to be included on the list outlining the new Wonders of the World not only for their prolific mushroom celebration but also because this is the single location where Molly Schuyler ate 9 pounds of Buona Foods fried mushrooms in 8 minutes which is a feat that can only be described as both wonderful and awe-inspiring,” said Todd Greenwald, Chairman of All Pro Eating. He continued, “The Mushroom Festival National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship Presented by Buona Foods is a deep fried festivity that honors American food and our spirit of competition. Last year we crowned two new Amateur champions, Amanita Applebaum and Monty Wiradilaga, who each walked away with $200.00 and that will happen again this year for two lucky and hungry individuals. I think last year’s record of 9 pounds is unbreakable but I have learned never to doubt the appetite of a Competitive Eater - I can’t wait to be back in Kennett Square!”
The cash prizes specifically set aside for the highest finishing Amateur or Local Competitive Eaters are considered to be the highest prize pool for Amateurs in any 2014 officially sanctioned Competitive Eating Championship.
There are already is a significant field of Professional, Amateur and Local participants and several additional spots are available to anyone over the age of 18. The Mushroom Festival and Buona Foods both encourage anyone interested in participating to register for their chance to experience one of the fastest growing sports in the World and be a part of this event that will likely include over 20 Eaters.
