The ACA partnered with Anzovin Studio to change the landscape of public safety announcements in the boating world with two new animated videos. Produced under a grant by the U.S. Coast Guard, one video targets kayakers and canoeists, and the other targets stand up paddleboarders.

More than ever before, people are choosing paddlesports as a way to keep physically fit, experience adventure, and spend time with family and friends in the great outdoors. Whether kayaking on a lake, rafting down a river, stand up paddleboarding in the ocean, or canoeing down a stream, millions of Americans participate in paddlesports each year. With the influx of novice paddlers on all types of waterways comes an increased risk of injuries and deaths. Canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddleboards were responsible for 20% of all boating casualties last year (U.S. Coast Guard 2013 Recreational Boating Statistics). The ACA, with funding from the U.S. Coast Guard, partnered with Anzovin Studio to create these two animated videos with the goal of educating and empowering paddlers to take responsibility for their personal safety on the water.

“Our hope is that these videos will not only entertain viewers but also impart crucial safety messages that stick. We want to make you laugh and potentially save your life, too,” says Catharine Lloyd, ACA Communications Coordinator and project manager of the U.S. Coast Guard grant responsible for producing the videos.

The ACA’s National Paddlesports Instruction Program is recognized as the gold standard in paddlesports education throughout the U.S. and several foreign countries. The safe boating animated videos are a new asset in the ACA’s campaign to develop, produce, and disseminate a wide range of safety, education, and instruction programs to serve the 50+ million Americans who participate in paddlesports annually.
