4X4 Aviation Limited Unveils Its Prototype Vertical Take Off & Landing Aircraft
Romney Marsh, Kent (PRWEB UK) 7 August 2014 -- 4x4 Aviation Ltd, based at London Ashford Airport in Lydd, is set to deliver an energy efficient and cost effective infrastructure solution that will make the transportation of goods and vital supplies around the globe, particularly to land locked and developing nations, easier, faster and more economical through its innovative vertical take off and landing aircraft called the VV-Plane. Thorsten U. Reinhardt, the companies Founder says, “Local and national economies, as well as developing countries, are today struggling to meet the ever-increasing demands for transport infrastructure. A viable solution will generate huge economic and social benefits for these countries.”
The VV-Plane is based on a hybrid system that draws its energy from electric turbines powered by an energy storage system and a highly efficient combustion engine acting as the aircrafts on-board generator. The aircraft is controlled by an intuitive software system that allows the transition from vertical to horizontal flight without the need for heavy and expensive mechanical tilting mechanisms.
The company is set to debut the prototype on the 26th September 2014, at its base in Lydd, Kent and in preparation for its unveiling, 4x4 Aviation has redesigned the aircraft fuselage. Reinhardt says, “The redesign was necessary to not only showcase the functionality of the aircraft but also to have something pleasing to the eye." He continues, “Making the VV-Plane more aerodynamic and increasing the aircrafts power to weight ratio was an added advantage of the redesign.”
Due to the VV Plane’s electric-gas hybrid design, travel distance of up to 3,300km at an average speed of 300km/h can be achieved at a lower cost per ton-km compared to delivery by truck. This will relieve the pressure on countries currently facing the burden of infrastructure expenditure of US$50 trillion through to 2030.
As the first stage of the development draws to an end the company is actively seeking funding for the next stage in its evolution, which will revolve around the development of the companies innovative technology portfolio that apart from the VV-Plane includes a low-cost, combustion engine, an inexpensive energy-storage solution as well as electric-turbine technology.
