MP&ES Delivers a Specialty Heavy Capacity Transfer Car
Greenville, SC (PRWEB) August 04, 2014 -- Motive Power & Equipment Solutions, Inc. (MP&ES), a leading provider of locomotive and railcar servicing and repair, recently rebuilt an ultra heavy capacity transfer car for the final leg of the journey in the movement of the world’s largest gas turbine. Weighing in at 866,000 lbs, this massive piece of high tech equipment had travelled 6000 miles from Belfort, France to Greenville, SC by truck, sea and rail, needing specialty transport equipment for every stage of its journey.

The heavy-duty transfer car is a four truck, 16 axle, 450Ton capacity railcar that has been employed for years for heavy, on-site transport. Given the long term wear and fatigue, MP&ES was called in to inspect and assess the car to ensure it could still operate safely at maximum capacity. Working under a strict deadline to both engineer and effect repairs, MP&ES successfully completed the job at the budgeted amount and ahead of the agreed time frame of completion.
The job was complex due to the unusual weights involved and the multiple truck sets. The platform was separated from the truck mounts and assemblies and reversed to repair/replace weakened structural members and install new components for added capacity. After return to upright position, the heavy deck was repaired and new plating installed where necessary. All trucks were disassembled and reconditioned to specifications.
