AAGL Announces It Has Joined With Other Medical Societies to Encourage Hospitals Teaching Endoscopic Surgery to Establish Simulator Labs for Training
Cypress, CA (PRWEB) August 01, 2014 -- AAGL, a premiere professional educational society dedicated to advancing gynecologic endoscopic surgery, is pleased to announce a joint venture with several other medical societies, in the United States and Europe, which strongly recommends every hospital teaching endoscopic surgery should make available to surgeons an endoscopic dry lab for training in an effort to improve the proficiency of their endoscopic surgery skills.
Endoscopy is the use of small tubular instruments to look inside the body. Evolving endoscopic procedures and instrumentation have created the need for continued education and training.
Simulation practice prior to training in the operating room has been shown to reduce patient complications, save lives and improve the outcome in all endoscopic surgical disciplines.
“Practice makes perfect,” said Dr. Ceana Nezhat, President of AAGL. “It’s time to remove the patient from the learning process. Technology has evolved to a point where ample training can occur before a surgeon steps foot in the operating room.”
The following medical societies co-signed this endorsement for endoscopic training:
ACOG: American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
ESGE: European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy
EBCOG: European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
EAGS: European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery
ENTOG: European Network of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
AAGL: American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists
