8minutenergy Renewables, LLC today announced the signing of a 20-year contract to sell 51 megawatts-ac of clean, renewable solar energy from its Borden Solar Farm project in Madera County, Calif., to Southern California Edison (SCE). The transaction was conducted between SCE and 41MB 8me LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of California-based 8minutenergy Renewables, the nation's leading independent solar PV developer.
In addition, 8minutenergy also signed 2 PPAs totaling 406MW with Southern California Edison for the Mount Signal Solar II and Mount Signal Solar V projects in Imperial Valley.
8minutenergy Renewables will fund the development of the Borden Solar Farm. The utility-scale solar generation facility is sited on approximately 450 acres of low-productivity farmland.
"We are pleased that our Borden Solar Farm has been awarded a PPA, and excited that we now have more than 1,000 megawatts under contract," said Martin Hermann, chief executive officer of 8minutenergy Renewables. "We take pride in the fact that the Borden Solar Farm will generate approximately 200 jobs for the people of Madera County during construction, and look forward to building this solar plant."
“We are also pleased to have garnered the support of the Defenders of Wildlife for this clean energy project by constructing it with special attention to local habitat and the environment," said Tom Buttgenbach, president of 8minutenergy Renewables.
The solar power system for the Borden Solar Farm will be comprised of state-of-the-art single-axis mounted solar photovoltaic modules, related power electronics, and other components including an advanced tracking system that follows the sun to maximize energy production. The PPA contract is pending approval from the California Public Utilities Commission.
