Globehunters Announces Winter Twin Centre Holidays to Cuba
Havana, Cuba (PRWEB UK) 4 August 2014 -- Globehunters has announced a range of twin centre packages in Cuba this winter. The UK online travel agent will be providing twin centre holidays that combine the unique charms of capital city Havana with some of the island’s most popular beach resorts such as Varadero and Cayo Coco.
The Globehunters twin centre holiday deals combine these two distinctive sides of Cuba, allowing visitors to combine culture with the more traditional Caribbean holiday pursuits of sunbathing and water sports.
The Caribbean island’s blend of fascinating urban culture and white-sand beaches continues to draw significant tourist numbers from around the world, particularly from the UK, US, and Canada. Stats released for the month of August last year showed that the UK has the second most visitors to the island behind Canada, and in 2014, nearly 150,000 Brits visited Cuba between January and March. During the first six months of 2014, foreign visitors to Cuba increased by 3.7 percent to 1.6 million, compared to 1.5 million during the same period last year.
The number of US arrivals is particularly interesting; recent figures indicating that Americans are visiting Cuba in record numbers despite strict travel restrictions. Just over 98,000 US citizens visited Cuba in 2012, twice the number compared with five years previous, according to an online report by the National Statistics Office.
The continuing increase in US travel to Communist Cuba comes five years after US President Barack Obama loosened restrictions on travel to the island. Prior to changes made in 2011, the US government had restricted US visitors to Cuba to certain groups, including those with family members, academics, and government officials.
The legacy of a longstanding US trade embargo dating back to the early 1960s is most obvious in Havana, which is perhaps part of the city’s appeal. Whilst Varadero has an abundance of the kind of pristine beaches that are synonymous with the rest of the Caribbean, capital city Havana has its own unique charm. Its cars are largely a throwback to a bygone era before the trade embargo began, and the many distinctive monuments of the UNESCO World Heritage Site city centre are sure to impress.
