Fresno Hosts USTA Northern California Jr. Team Tennis Section Championships

More than 675 of the top junior players in Northern California compete for chance to move on to championships in South Carolina or Southern California.

The top 83 junior tennis teams totaling more than 675 players from all over Northern California are competing at several locations throughout Fresno, Calif. this weekend — August 1-3 — to compete in the USTA Northern California Section Championships.

Competition sites include Clovis North High School and Granite Ridge Intermediate, Clovis West High School, Copper River Country Club, Fig Garden Swim & Racquet Club, Sierra Sport & Racquet Club, and Sunnyside Health & Tennis Club.

Teams in the Same Gender division are competing to represent Team NorCal in the 2014 Gar Glenney Cup held in Long Beach, Calif. on August 16-17.

Teams in the Coed division, teams will be competing to advance to the 2014 Jr. Team Tennis National Championships held in October in Cayce, S.C. (14U – Oct. 16-19; 18U – Oct. 23–26).

Players will also be competing off the court for prizes in a new Instagram photo contest when they use the hashtag #NorCalJTT when posting their tournament pictures to USTA Northern California’s Instagram account at

Saturday night, the players will all come together to celebrate at a party featuring a BBQ dinner, a DJ playing music, photo booth, raffle prizes, and games.
