The doctors and staff of North Shore Eye Care are thrilled to welcome one of Long Island’s leading oculofacial cosmetic eye surgeons – Samuel Baharestani, MD – to our growing medical staff, according to North Shore Eye Care Medical Director, Jeffrey Martin, MD, who announced Dr. Baharestani’s affiliation this week.

As a Fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmic plastic surgeon, Dr. Baharestani’s extensive training and expertise are an ideal complement to the surgical services offered at North Shore Eye Care. “We are constantly striving to deliver the highest quality comprehensive eye care on Long Island,” said Dr. Martin, “and the addition of such a highly-trained ophthalmic plastic surgeon like Dr. Baharestani allows us to expand our surgical services even further.”

Dr. Martin pointed out that long-time residents of Long Island will appreciate the fact that Dr. Baharastani was raised on Long Island and is a graduate of Roslyn High School. “It’s rare for a surgeon to have the opportunity to practice his specialty and care for the same friends, neighbors and family members they grew up with.”

Dr. Baharestani attended New York University’s College of Arts and Science, where he was a Magna Cum Laude Honors graduate in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Economics. While at NYU, he was also honored as a Presidential Scholar, named to the Dean’s Advisory Council and received the Harry A. Charipper Medal for outstanding contributions to the science of biology.

Dr. Baharestani earned his Medical Degree from NYU School of Medicine and performed his internship at Lennox Hill Hospital on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. He then returned to NYU Medical Center and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, where he completed his surgical training in general eye surgery and served as Chief Resident. Because of his accomplishments during his surgical training, he was recruited to join the faculty as a Clinical Instructor.

Dr. Baharestani then went on to complete his Fellowship in aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid, tear duct and oculofacial plastic surgery at The Cincinnati Eye Institute and University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Today, he is a Fellow of the American Society for Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS, is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology).

“My colleagues and I at North Shore Eye Care are extremely proud to have a plastic surgeon of Dr. Baharestani’s caliber join our team,” said Dr. Martin. “Since my father, Sidney Martin, MD founded North Shore Eye Care more than 50 years ago, our commitment was to provide Long Island residents access to leading surgeons like Dr. Baharestani and the other members on our medical staff who deliver the latest advances in world-class eye care right here on Long Island.”

Dr. Baharestani has held numerous appointments at NYU School of Medicine, The Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, Lennox Hill Hospital, The North Shore-LIJ Health System and The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he teaches future eye surgeons the latest advances in ophthalmic plastic surgery. He has over 100 publications of original research, care presentations, book chapters, abstract submissions and online medical contributions.

“Dr. Baharestani has always had a passion for not only pursuing excellence in the fields of science and medicine, but for sharing his knowledge with colleagues and patients alike,” said Dr. Martin. “All of the doctors and staff here at North Shore Eye Care look forward to learning from his extensive knowledge and confident our patients will find him a most welcomed addition to our team.”

Dr. Baharestani is fluent in English, Spanish and Farsi. When he is not lecturing, performing research or assisting patients, he enjoys traditional Persian cuisine, Billy Joel’s music, New York Knicks basketball and traveling to Spanish-speaking countries around the world.
