Apptitude and The Houston Zoo Launch Groundbreaking Animal Conservation Game for Kids
New Orleans, Louisiana (PRWEB) August 04, 2014 -- The Houston Zoo has partnered with Apptitude to develop a game for kids to help children aged 4 to 10 learn about global conservation and environmental issues. Houston Zoo Kids has just launched and is available to play now for free at kids.houstonzoo.org.
Houston Zoo Kids is unlike anything any zoo has ever created before, combining cutting-edge technology with educational tools to help kids learn more about their favorite animals and how they are threatened in the wild. Kids can join John, their fellow field researcher, on a journey through three parts of Africa, each with a different set of animals to research and a different conservation mission to complete.
“We chose Apptitude as our development studio for Houston Zoo Kids because we knew they did outstanding work,” said Katie Niemann, Director of Interactive Marketing for The Houston Zoo. “The project was a complex and never-before-attempted initiative for kids that would help them learn in a fun way about animals and how to protect them in the wild. Apptitude successfully took our initial concept and made it live and breathe, and we could not be happier with the end result.”
Extending their long-standing technology partnership, Apptitude and The Houston Zoo have been working for the past eight months with a single goal in mind: To help educate kids about conservation issues through a fun, entertaining game that would be available to as many children as possible. Featuring illustrations from world-renowned illustrator Tad Carpenter and designs from Seattle-based designer Kevyn Smith, Houston Zoo Kids sports an aesthetic unlike any other game.
With just over 90,000 lines of code, the game utilizes cutting-edge web technology to bring all of the pieces together into a web-based, browser-friendly game that can be played on almost any computer or tablet. The game was built entirely with HTML5, JavaScript and CSS.
"We're thrilled with the finished product and are honored to have partnered with The Houston Zoo, one of the top ten zoos in the country, to help spread their mission of education and global conservation," said Apptitude Founder Chris Boyd. "We look forward to hearing feedback from kids about what they love about the game and ways we can make it even better."
