National Federation of the Blind to Host Web Accessibility Training Day
Baltimore, Maryland (PRWEB) August 06, 2014 -- The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the Maryland Department of Disabilities Technology Assistance Program will co-host Web Accessibility Training Day on Tuesday, September 9, 2014. During the morning sessions of this all-day event, representatives from a range of different governmental, educational, and business organizations will discuss their strategies for creating web content that complies with federal and state regulations. The afternoon will be devoted to in-depth breakout sessions on specific technical and policy topics, targeted to deliver information that will be immediately useful. Presenters include representatives from the Department of Justice, Google, Oracle, the Department of Homeland Security, and the US Access Board.
Mark Riccobono, President of the National Federation of the Blind, said, “The National Federation of the Blind is proud to present this event as one of the inaugural projects of our Center for Excellence in Nonvisual Access to Education, Public Information, and Commerce. The Web Accessibility Training Day will focus on giving private companies, government entities, educational institutions and others, the tools they need to make their services and information available to all Americans.”
Anne Taylor, Director of Access Technology for the National Federation of the Blind, said, “As a founding member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals, the NFB understands the critical role of education in bringing about a better, more accessible web. The Web Accessibility Training Day is a terrific way for us to bring together some of the best and most experienced experts in web accessibility with the professionals who are building accessibility policy and web content, and who are often struggling to find solutions for accessibility barriers. We want to give them the tools and lessons learned from companies and organizations that make it look easy.”
The event will be conducted as part of the training initiative for the newly-launched NFB Center of Excellence in Nonvisual Access to Education, Public Information, and Commerce. The Center of Excellence serves to share the considerable knowledge about web accessibility that the NFB and its partners possess, in order to bring about greater accessibility in government, education, and business; to promote best practices nationally; and to build Maryland’s status as the leader in the field.
