First Annual Wave City Care Shine 5K to Take Place at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) August 06, 2014 -- Wave City Care's first annual Shine 5k will be held at Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach on August 16th at 8:30am to benefit Wave City Care and the ShineGIRL program. ShineGIRL is a unique program facilitated through Wave City Care, aimed at building self-esteem in girl's ages 10-17. Shine 5k provides a fun family atmosphere for the Hampton Roads community to get involved with a local organization making a difference in the lives of a generation of future leaders. Working through the local school systems, girls in grades 5-12 are equipped to identify their own value, build confidence, develop key decision-making skills and identify their personal goals and desires.
Sarah Hummel, director of the ShineGIRL program and a member of Wave City Care, has spent the past years building the program and investing in the lives of what she calls "her girls." Sarah says, "ShineGIRL has given each girl in our program a better chance of reaching their potential. We see countless examples of positive change and hope, where there was often a loss of hope. I am passionate about my girls and the impact Wave City Care can have on the youth in Hampton Roads."
The event promises to be as unique as the Wave City Care ShineGIRL program. A race full of sparkly tutus, glitter, a possible beauty queen appearance and a special pre-race warm up led by Hammer Fitness. Their platinum sponsor Kenneth Porter and Co. has been instrumental in facilitating the event.
Registration for the event is still open and registered participants will receive a t-shirt commemorating the event.
