ACPE Pairs with AcademyHealth for Health Policy Orientation
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 05, 2014 -- As lawmakers continue to pursue health care reform, a growing number of physician leaders are being called upon to help create and implement these changes.
In response, the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) has joined with AcademyHealth to offer the Physician Executives Health Policy Orientation, an in-depth introduction to formal and informal policymaking processes.
“As physician leaders, we have first-hand knowledge of how a policy decision will affect health care,” said Peter Angood, MD, FRCS(C), FACS, FCCM, president and CEO of ACPE. “This conference is designed to help us understand the process and find ways to provide the fair and balanced voice of physician leadership in Washington.”
The one-and-a-half day meeting will be held September 12-13 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. It will include presentations by policy experts, interactive panels and group discussions.
"AcademyHealth has offered an in depth Health Policy Orientation for more than 12 years and we’ve taken that experience and created a unique program tailored to the particular needs and interests of physician executives and focused on priority issues in care delivery,” said Lisa Simpson, MB, BCh, MPH, FAAP, a pediatrician and president and CEO of Academy Health. “The program includes well-known faculty members and offers the opportunity for substantial dialogue and engagement with the speakers.”
Among the speakers for the event are:
• Christine Cassel, president and CEO of the National Quality Fund
• David Blumenthal, MD, president of the Commonwealth Fund
• Sara Rosenbaum, professor of health law and policy at George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services
• Patricia Neuman, senior vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation
• Atul Grover, MD, PhD, chief public policy officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges
The orientation will feature a small-classroom format with a one-to-one ratio of faculty to participants. It’s an excellent opportunity for physician leaders who are interested in health policy to ask questions, learn about key stakeholders and discuss critical issues.
Attendees will include chief executive officers, chief medical officers, vice-presidents of medical affairs, medical directors and other physicians. Participants can earn up to 11 CME credits for attending.
