10% of Users "Shifting" Their GPS Location on SinglesAroundMe

New York, New York; London, England; Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) August 06, 2014

SinglesAroundMe® the globally popular social discovery mobile dating app found that users are taking advantage of a new privacy option that allows users to ‘shift’ their precise GPS location a few miles in relation to others while using a smart device.

The study was based on the privacy option selections of SinglesAroundMe® users on both the iPhone and Android. In the United States, Canada and Great Britain, results mirrored the global average where nearly 10% of users opted to shift their location by a few miles.

Unique to SinglesAroundMe® and protected by it’s patent pending
Position-Shift™ invention, Position-Shift is a privacy option choice that displaces or shifts the users' true location by a few miles on geographical maps or by distance calculations. This degree of privacy still allows users to flirt within the general vicinity, but provides them with the comfort and security they desire. Users can choose to show, hide and now Shift their location within the app.

“Users are becoming more familiar with the new privacy options and are also electing to change their options more frequently. We expect this feature will become standard across major social networking platforms in the future,” said Christopher Klotz, CEO of SinglesAroundMe®.

The study found that 16% of South African women opted to ‘Shift’ their GPS location in relation to others while 7% of South African men selected this option.

The study also found that Android users were far more likely to Shift their location than iPhone users. For example in Australia, 13% of female Android users opted to “Shift “their location, while only 4% of female iPhone users selected this privacy option. In the United States the stats show 8% for Android and 5% for women on an iPhone.

“Location privacy is a natural concern of people, and with the use of location services becoming more main stream, people are demanding greater privacy options. Our study found that there is a healthy percentage of users that wish to be visible within the general vicinity but not precisely located,” said Klotz.
