PAINWeek Adds Full-Day Track on Interventional Pain Management
Montclair, NJ (PRWEB) August 06, 2014 -- PAINWeek, the National Conference on Pain for Frontline Practitioners, announced today that the 2014 Conference will feature a new track presented by the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) exploring interventional approaches to pain management that are expanding the clinician’s treatment armamentarium. Interventional procedures can be an effective means to minimize opioid load while improving patients’ function and quality of life.
The new track, to be offered on the final day of the conference, Saturday, September 6, will commence with an overview of interventional pain management and the appropriate patient presentations for referral. Other courses include interventional procedures; a discussion of risk management, complications, options, and outcomes of intervention; and a survey of recent advances in interventional procedures. The track will be presented by faculty members Sanford Silverman, MD, and Hans Hansen, MD. Commenting on the new track, Dr. Silverman observed, “Practitioners should know the limitations of pharmacologic therapy and when to consult a pain physician who offers interventional pain medicine (IPM) as an option. Understanding when to implement these techniques is crucial to achieving the goal of successful management of a patient whose complaint is pain.” Dr. Hansen added, “Many times patients with pain have been to multiple practitioners, and a fresh perspective is sometimes offered by the interventionalist. Most pain complaints are multidimensional, and interventional pain techniques often tease apart the complexity of the many comorbidities accompanying those in pain.”
Among other enhancements to PAINWeek 2014 attendees will find a new course track exploring cannabinoid-based therapies for chronic pain, new course concentrations for nurse practitioners, and an expanded 3-day format for the highly popular Pain Educators Forum. Special attention will be given to NSAID and opioid safety, in view of the panoply of concerns that attend these treatment modalities.
As at prior PAINWeek conferences, the 2014 curriculum features a wealth of course concentrations, including behavioral pain management, health coaching, medical/legal, neurology, pain and chemical dependency, pharmacotherapy, regional pain syndromes, and full-day programs presented by the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Pain Society, the American Society of Pain Educators, the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, and the Veterans Health Administration. Additionally, over 100 exhibitors will be participating during Exhibit Hall hours commencing with the traditional Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening.
In total, the PAINWeek curriculum now encompasses over 120 CE/CME course hours, enabling attendees to earn 39 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.
