Daily Sun Exposure and Vitamin D Intake Simplified With Wearable Device
Portland, OR (PRWEB) August 07, 2014 -- Ultra has introduced the first-ever wearable technology that measures an individual’s accumulated ultraviolet (UV) dosage and effective vitamin D generation. Violet pairs with a mobile device to provide real-time data on overall sun exposure.
Ultra serves health conscious individuals who are concerned about the detrimental effects of sun over-exposure (i.e. skin aging and skin cancer), as well as the risks of under-exposure, including vitamin D deficiency and depression. The device has been available for pre-order on Kickstarter for 30 days beginning July 21.
“Ultra has created an outstanding device with unique solutions relevant to a growing population of health conscious individuals concerning the important health effects of both UV over-exposure and vitamin D deficiency,” said Dr. Andrew Blauvelt, M.D., M.B.A., dermatologist and President of the Oregon Medical Research Center. “There is no similar product on the market. Violet is the only device capable of capturing both UV exposure and vitamin D production data, and personalizing them to achieve balance for each end user.”
Violet helps people achieve optimal balance of sun exposure to maintain personal health. The device can be worn on a wrist, attached to an article of clothing or simply set within close proximity of the user. Violet syncs to a mobile device (Android or iPhone). Each device can be configured for multiple users with personalized settings.
According to Wall Street Journal’s May 2014 MarketWatch, the $3 billion global wearable computing market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 43.4 percent with more than $30.2 billion forecast for 2018.
The Ultra team includes seasoned entrepreneurs, industry-leading electrical engineers, software developers, biomedical researchers, a world-renowned dermatologist and expert user interface/experience designers. Ultra practices lean methodologies to ensure products are developed with world-class, human-centered design principles. Design is at the core of Ultra’s development process.
“Over-exposure to sunlight can increase the risk of skin cancer, skin aging, immune suppression and eye damage. But under-exposure to sunlight can lead to vitamin D deficiency – a major risk factor for bone diseases, diabetes, depression, some common cancers and cardiovascular diseases,” said Nattapon Chaimanonart, Ultra CEO. “Violet helps people achieve the optimal balance of sun exposure.”
Kickstarter campaigns operate under an “all-or-nothing” funding model so Violet must reach its goal of $100,000 to kick-off product development. For more information and the latest product updates, follow Violet on Twitter and Facebook.
