Ultra has introduced the first-ever wearable technology that measures an individual’s accumulated ultraviolet (UV) dosage and effective vitamin D generation. Violet pairs with a mobile device to provide real-time data on overall sun exposure.

Ultra serves health conscious individuals who are concerned about the detrimental effects of sun over-exposure (i.e. skin aging and skin cancer), as well as the risks of under-exposure, including vitamin D deficiency and depression. The device has been available for pre-order on Kickstarter for 30 days beginning July 21.

The device can be worn on a wrist, attached to an article of clothing or simply set within close proximity of the user. Violet syncs to a mobile device (Android or iPhone). Each device can be configured for multiple users with personalized settings.

According to Wall Street Journal’s May 2014 MarketWatch, the $3 billion global wearable computing market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 43.4 percent with more than $30.2 billion forecast for 2018.
