Onix Moves the University of Notre Dame to Google Apps
Lakewood, Ohio (PRWEB) August 11, 2014 -- Onix Networking (“Onix”) moved the University of Notre Dame faculty and staff to Google Apps for Education on Tuesday, June 17th, joining Notre Dame students who have been using Google Apps since 2008.
Onix led the technical aspects of the migration and guided the Notre Dame Office of Information Technologies team through managing this change for the campus. “With Onix’s support, we successfully moved a massive amount of data - over 15,000 accounts and more than 10TB of data from our campus email system to Google Apps in less than four months. The Onix team’s expertise with Google Apps and the migration process was instrumental in this success,” said Michael J. Chapple, senior director for IT service delivery at Notre Dame.
The Go Live on June 17 was an exciting day for the University’s IT team. The 20-member team was joined by a team of 10 Onix deployment specialists, trainers, and support staff. Confident that the move would be a success, the IT staff created a Star Wars theme to encourage campus IT staff to gain expertise in Google services. Their Google experts were deemed “masters” or “Yodas” to assist anyone with questions about the Google products or the transition. Prior to the Go Live, Notre Dame had opted to use a “train the trainer” approach, having one trainer from Onix train 30-40 Notre Dame faculty, staff, and IT personnel to become the “Yodas”.
Tony Bianco, president of Onix’s cloud computing division, leads the team responsible for Onix’s customers to Google Apps. “Onix’s deployment team worked very closely with the University of Notre Dame on this project. Notre Dame’s IT team was very involved, and the Onix folks really enjoyed working with them and collaborating to make this a successful project.”
