Medical Guardian Gives Back for National Senior Citizens Day
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- There are roughly 45 million senior citizens living in America today, and that number continues to grow. With people living longer than ever before, many Senior Citizens are proving that it isn’t about the years in your life, it’s truly about the life in your years.
This August 21, National Senior Citizens Day will honor the achievements and accomplishments of older Americans everywhere. For every Medical Guardian product that is purchased in the month of August, Medical Guardian will donate “health and safety” packages to senior centers in the Philadelphia area.
“Giving back to our elderly neighbors is so important,” said Emily Rickel, Director of Human Resources for Medical Guardian. “Our parents, grandparents, and clients are a reminder of where we came from. None of us would be here without the foundation they built for us and we want them to know they are appreciated.”
They will also be running An Act of Kindness competition amongst their staff members, which will award people for helping a senior citizen in need throughout the month of August.
“We move in such a fast-paced world, it’s so easy to forget about those in need around you,” said Rickel. “Whether it’s holding a door open for someone, helping them cross the street, or stopping to help them with their groceries, taking the time to be kind to the elderly can have a big impact.”
National Senior Citizens Day was created in 1988 when President Ronald Reagan put forth a proclamation recognizing the establishment of a new national holiday. By the 1990’s, National Senior Citizens Day had started to pick up momentum and it is now celebrated with special events at senior and community centers across the country.
