Kalaty Rug Corporation Announces Addition of New Green Initiative to Warehouse
New York, New York (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- Kalaty Rug Corporation, a fourth-generation family-owned area rug company headquartered outside New York City, announced today that they have added new environmentally-friendly initiatives to continue to decrease their carbon footprint.
With recycling programs becoming increasingly popular in cities throughout the United States, including the NYCWasteLess campaign, more companies and residents are being encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle to not only help the environment, but prevent further waste. To help support the initiative, Kalaty has decided to recycle all of their packing materials that are used for their manufacturing and warehouse processes.
The emphasis on recycling comes two years after the company announced the addition of an eco-friendly photovoltaic solar electrical system to their warehouse. The system has helped reduce the amount of “off-the-grid” electrical energy the company utilizes each year. Over the course of one year, this photovoltaic system saves the equivalent in harmful emissions of driving 72,500 miles in the average car or the energy equivalent of planting 825 trees per year.
During this time, the company also rolled out an e-invoicing program as an option for customers to not only save in terms of time and cost, but help decrease the number of trees cut down globally each year.
“The company’s green initiatives do not stop at its warehouse practices,” explained Kamran Kalaty, of Kalaty. “We are continually looking for new ways to decrease our company’s emissions and environmental impact, while still maintaining our high-quality products and customer service that our customers have come to love.”
According to the World Floor Covering Association, over 90% of carpet today is made of synthetic fiber – typically nylon, polypropylene or polyester. All three are manufactured from a similar chemical processes that uses oil and natural gas. Unlike the majority of flooring manufacturers, all Kalaty area rugs are handmade and made solely of natural fibers including fine wools, cotton and viscose derived from bamboo. Because bamboo is grown more sustainably than other plants and trees, viscose derived from bamboo yarns are eco-friendly and considered by many to be the textile of the future.
