Kaplan Lawyers PC, New York City Personal Injury Law Firm, Helps 9/11-Related Cancer Victims Understand Legal Rights
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 09, 2014 -- Thousands of 9/11 rescuers and first responders have been diagnosed with cancers that, according to the federal government, are a direct result of the 2001 terrorist attack. And those numbers are growing, according to a new report.
Now, Kaplan Lawyers PC, a New York City personal injury law firm, is helping New York City’s heroes understand their rights as they face the crippling costs of cancer.
9/11-Related Cancer Victims Entitled to IRS Tax Deductions, Other Relief
Substantial income tax deductions are available to those who have fallen sick or died as a result of a terrorist attack. Recently, the IRS came under fire for failing to make victims aware of those deductions. In fact, many who are eligible may remain unaware. Victims, their families, and suffering first responders should consult with an attorney to make sure they understand their rights.
Likewise, those suffering financially as a result of 9/11-related cancer may be able to recover certain damages with the help of a New York personal injury law firm.
“There’s a reason we call these people heroes,” said Richard Sabatino, executive director at Kaplan Lawyers PC. “When everyone else was running away from the attack, they were running toward it. They gave us their best. Now, we as a city — and a country — owe them ours.”
“As a New York City personal injury law firm,” Sabatino said, “Kaplan Lawyers PC is going to do everything it can to help NYC heroes understand their rights under the law and how they can recover from this horrible ordeal as successfully as possible. We’re here to help.”
Those with questions about their rights are invited to call Kaplan Lawyers PC for more information.
Cancer Plagues 9/11 First Responders
More than 30,000 recovery workers were subjected to carcinogens, chemicals, and other potentially hazardous agents in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001. The effect of that exposure was not immediately apparent, but experts have long feared a potential increase in cancer rates among those who put their lives on the line that day. Now, some thirteen years later, the mounting numbers suggest those fears were well founded, after all.
Of course, medical insiders caution that it is too soon to tell for sure whether the 9/11-related cancer toll is statistically significant. A proper analysis would require that the group of nearly 3,000 rescuers who have been diagnosed with cancer be compared against a group of randomly selected people who were not at Ground Zero but otherwise share the same demographic makeup. Analysts also point out that firefighters have a higher incidence of cancer in general.
But statistical study does little to ease the very real burden that several thousand rescue workers in and around New York City now face. That’s why Kaplan Lawyers PC and others are helping the victims of 9/11-related cancer understand their rights under federal and New York law.
Sabatino indicated that Kaplan has a track record of speaking out in support of 9/11 victims and that helping New Yorkers cope with medical costs is one of the firm’s strongest commitments.
