St. Louis (PRWEB) August 10, 2014

The Doe Run Company (Doe Run) will be honored on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, by Missouri Enterprise with the prestigious Missouri impact! Award for Continuous Improvement in Manufacturing Excellence.

The award recognizes Doe Run for its commitment to achieving and maintaining “world class” manufacturing status, as well as the contributions that the company makes to the state of Missouri and the communities in which it operates.

Missouri Enterprise President Dusty Cruise will present the award during a ceremony at the Viburnum Country Club in Viburnum, Missouri. Cruise will be joined by Missouri State Representatives Paul Fitzwater, John McCaherty, Jeff Roorda, Robert Ross, and Paul Wieland, and by Melanie Bell, a District Representative of Congressman Jason Smith. Other public officials who are scheduled to attend the presentation ceremony include representatives from Reynolds County, Jefferson County, Washington County, and the mayors or administrators from Bismarck, Bonne Terre and Ironton.

Doe Run employs nearly 1,400 people in Missouri and contributes nearly $1 billion annually to the state’s economy. In recent years, the company has focused efforts on using local suppliers, and spends more than $200 million annually with Missouri companies in its supply chain.

“Continuous improvement, as well as attracting and retaining a skilled workforce, is critical to our success. That’s why we offer internships and scholarships and ongoing employee education for rising industry leaders,” says Jerry Pyatt, Doe Run president and CEO.

“Another part of our continuous improvement is our commitment to operating sustainably – using fewer resources while recovering more from mineral resources. Successful, long-term partnerships with Missouri suppliers are an important part of that, and its why an organization like Missouri Enterprise is extremely valuable to us,” Pyatt continued.

Since its founding in 1864, Doe Run has produced high-grade Missouri lead concentrates for 150 years. Missouri lead concentrates continue to be used to produce lead, which is used in a wide variety of industries today, including energy storage, emergency power, radiation shielding in energy generation and nuclear medicine, earthquake stabilization for expansion bridges, military equipment, computer screens, and weatherproofing and soundproofing.

Cruise said, “Missouri Enterprise created the Missouri impact! Award in 1998 to recognize the accomplishments of its business clients and associates who have excelled in the areas of continuous improvement in manufacturing, innovative technology development, environmental solutions or contributions to the success of Missouri business and community/state economic development.”
