Liquid Investments releases its updated report on Why Agri, Why Brazil, Why Now – Diversifying into Emerging Market Alternatives
(PRWEB UK) 10 August 2014 -- A perfect storm is building in global agriculture
• Food demand is being driven by rapidly growing populations across emerging markets. The global population will be 40% higher by 2050 and diets will be richer.
• Attractive supply-demand dynamics. Available farmland is shrinking world-wide. Farmland the size of California is being lost every three years due to erosion, higher levels of salt in the soil and other forms of land degradation.
• The result is a possible 60% increase in real food prices to 2050. Between 2000 and 2012 the World Bank food price index rose at an annual 6.5%.
• $83 billion will need to be invested annually in the agricultural sector in developing countries to feed the world’s poor. This will have a profound positive effect on agricultural asset values.
Already the key producer of a range of foodstuffs, Brazil will cement its position as the world’s largest foods exporter as soon as 2020. Investors are queuing up to invest in the country’s farmland and this has resulted in land prices rising by 70% over the past three years. Brazil also has ownership of the world’s largest freshwater supplies, twice the level of its nearest rivals. As for greenhouse gases, coconut husks produce the best quality and most efficient activated carbon, essential as the raw material in carbon emission reduction technology.
