About The Edible School Yard
The Edible School Yard was founded by another famous restaurateur and humanitarian, Alice Waters in Berkeley in 1997. The success at that location sparked the development for the program in the Bay Point/Hunter’s Point location. In an area where fast food dominates the dinner table, the Boys and Girls Club of SF is trying to give families another option. For $10 a month, families are able to come pick their own fresh vegetables and fruit. Children of the Edible School Yard are taught healthy choices and are involved in maintenance and planting of the garden.
