Wright & Schulte LLC Partner, Michael Wright, To Appear at News Conference to Discuss Police Shooting at Beavercreek, Ohio Walmart

According to a report from the Associated Press, police claimed immediately after the incident that Mr. Crawford, a 22-year-old resident of Cincinnati, was waving an rifle at customers just prior to the police shooting. They further assert that he would not drop the weapon when directed to do so by officers.

Shortly after being informed of his death, several of Mr. Crawford’s loved ones said they had reason to doubt the account given by police officers. LeeCee Johnson, who has two children with Mr. Crawford and is expecting a third, told the Dayton Daily News that he was speaking to her on his cell phone at the time of shooting. “We was just talking. He said he was at the video games playing videos and he went over there by the toy section where the toy guns were,” Ms. Johnson said. “And the next thing I know, he said ‘It’s not real,’ and the police start shooting and they said ‘Get on the ground,’ but he was already on the ground because they had shot him.”

Lamon Brown, a cousin of the victim, told the Daily News that he also believed that the weapon at the center of the tragedy was not real, as Mr. Crawford did not own a bb/pellet air rifle-type gun. Tasha Thomas, who drove Mr. Crawford to the Beavercreek Wal-Mart on Tuesday evening, also stated that he was not armed when he entered the store.
Just days after the police shooting, the suspicions of Mr. Crawford’s friends and loved ones were confirmed. According to the Associated Press, Attorney General Mike DeWine released a brief statement revealing that Mr. Crawford had been holding a MK-177 BB/Pellet rifle, a variable pump air rifle" made by Crosman Corp.

According to the Dayton Daily News, those who cared about Mr. Crawford do not believe his shooting was justified, and want to see justice done.
