Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC Host’s Sprint Four the Cure 5K to Benefit Cancer Research
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- Hosted by Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC, the 34th annual Sprint Four the Cure 5K run/walk will be held on September 20 along the Potomac Parkway. Proceeds from this annual event support cancer research at Washington Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
Sprint Four the Cure is a family-friendly event that includes a kids’ 100-yard dash, vendors, prizes, raffles, a hot breakfast provided by Four Seasons Hotel, as well as complimentary sweets from Georgetown Cupcakes, French pastries from PAUL USA and massages by Four Seasons Spa therapists. Participants can register for the chipped run/walk as an individual or as a team to collectively raise funds for cancer. Last year’s event raised more than $49,000, with continued donations received after the run/walk.
Prizes will be awarded to first-place finishers in eight different age groups. Registrants are automatically entered into a raffle for a chance to win additional door prizes from D.C.’s finest restaurants, spas, and more. A number of sponsors, including STG International, RCN Business, 94.7 Fresh FM, NewsChannel8, and Graphcom, Inc., have already joined the cause. Sponsorship packages are still available and include plenty of benefits—logo on race T-shirts and website, participant entry, display table, and more.
“This run is near and dear to the hearts of Four Seasons employees as we lost a friend and former colleague, Andrea Kauffman, to cancer in 2010,” says Dirk Burghartz, general manager of Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC. “For this reason, we are extremely grateful to all the participants and volunteers who support this event and help raise money to find a cure for cancer.”
Washington, D.C. has one of the highest cancer mortality rates in the country, and Washington Cancer Institute is the busiest cancer center in the nation’s capital, diagnosing approximately 2,400 new cancer cases each year. Distinguished for providing the capital region’s best cancer care, MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Cancer Institute provides the full range of medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical services, as well as access to cutting-edge clinical trials, patient and family counseling, cancer education and community outreach programs.
Dr. Sandra Swain, medical director of Washington Cancer Institute, notes that “contributions from this event, together with the proceeds generated by the Four Seasons’ annual June ‘Drive For the Cure’ golf tournament, continue to bolster the Washington Cancer Institute’s ability to conduct cancer research to make potentially groundbreaking new drugs available through clinical trials to our patients. We are sincerely grateful for the ongoing support provided by Four Seasons.”
This year’s event will be held in memory of Andrea Kauffman. Andrea’s mother, sister, and 15 family supporters will be in attendance. For more information, to register for Sprint Four the Cure, or to become a generous sponsor, visit http://www.sprintfourthecure.com.
