BAQS Quilts, Filipino Art to Be Featured at QuiltWeek® – Chattanooga, Tennessee 2014
Chattanooga, TN (PRWEB) August 13, 2014 -- Selected artwork from BAQS will be on display at AQS QuiltWeek – Chattanooga. Juried through BAQS and the American Quilter’s Society, 44 quilts were chosen for the exhibit to demonstrate the diversity of BAQS members and their work.
Maddie Kertay created BAQS in 2012 as an outlet for quilters who considered themselves to be nontraditional. The group has over 7,000 Facebook fans.
The Chattanooga exhibit is the first of two installments from BAQS. The second will be shown at QuiltWeek – Des Moines, Iowa 2014 in October. AQS QuiltWeek is a traveling quilt show hosting contests, special exhibits, quilting workshops, and a large Merchant Mall with hundreds of quilt-related vendors.
Celebrating Quilts – The Caohagan Way will also be featured during QuiltWeek – Chattanooga. These quilts, handmade in the Philippines, depict vivid island images in bright colors. Around 80 quilters on the island of Caohagan produce 200 quilts a year. The revenue from these highly collectible pieces of art accounts for one-third of the island’s income. Many will be for sale at the show.
Admission to AQS QuiltWeek includes access to all special exhibits and the Merchant Mall with more than 175 vendor booths. Hours are Wednesday, September 10, through Friday, September 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, September 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ticket and additional information can be found at http://www.quiltweek.com/chattanooga or by calling 1-270-898-7903.
